Mitigation Measures

COVID-19 permissible activities

As the COVID-19 situation in Malta is gradually improving, this has led to the release of certain measures.             

Outlined below are the permissible activities with the dates from when they come into effect.

With effect from 24th May 2021

  • Groups of 4 people from different households are allowed to gather together in public
  • People from 4 different households can meet together in a private residence
  • Restaurants and snack bars can open till midnight
  • 4 people are allowed to sit together in a restaurant or snack bar
  • Swimming pools will reopen to the public till 8.00pm, but activities are not allowed
  • Gyms and fitness centres will reopen, but classes are not allowed
  • Day centres will reopen
  • Contact sport training for persons aged 17+ will continue
  • Non-contact sports competitions will continue, without spectators

With effect from the 1st June 2021

  • Seated weddings will continue according to the protocol announced
  • English schools will reopen on campus
  • Masks on the beach will be recommended but not mandatory

With effect from the 7th June 2021

  • Groups of 6 people from different households are allowed to gather together in public
  • The number of persons permitted on the same table in restaurants and snack bars will increase to 6
  • Cinemas and theatres will reopen
  • Bars and clubs (każini) can open till midnight with clients seated
  • Gaming and betting establishments will reopen
  • Contact sports and te​am sports competitions for persons aged 17+ will continue, without spectators

With effect from the 28th June 2021

  • Contact sport permissible for under 17 years
  • Fitness classes can operate as per standards
  • Opening hours of bars, restaurants and każini will be extended to 2am if license permits
  • Water parks will open according to standards
  • All types of boats can operate with 65% occupancy

With effect from the 1st July 2021

  • Removal of mask in public spaces for vaccinated people, either if they are alone or with another vaccinated person.  
  • Children under 12 can remove their mask if they are with a vaccinated adult.
